Matson Manufacturing & Co manufactured vanity and powder room accessories during the 1940-60s era, such as this exquisite object of art discovered by Royal Attar in a delightfully dusty Bronx antique shop. Drawing back old drapes and sifting through silted teapots – can one imagine the exhilaration at uncovering a perfume bottle of such incredible finery.
Matson The shape of this completely arresting artistry, handmade in New York, is as gloried as those mythic works by Hephaestus, master craftsman of Greek Mythology. The husband of proud Aphrodite was rarely licentious, unlike many of those frivolous Greek gods, and this rather desirable unit by Matson is just as reliable.
It has two beveled glass panels set in an ornate gold gilt filigree. Inside, a flowered filigree frame, cylinder and glass vial are supported by a detailed flora pedestal and lifted by scrolls and leaves. This bottle is matched by a glass dauber featuring a large central flower in full bloom.
